Aldrington CE Primary School

Welcome to Reception!

Our Reception classes are the Pandas and Penguins.

Miss Fletcher teaches Pandas and Mr Olney teaches Penguins

The teachers are assisted by Mrs Gausden, Mrs Ashton, Mrs Smith, Mrs Marcou, Mrs Radley,  Mrs Leach and Miss Card.

On Thursday mornings, Mrs Gausden will teach the Pandas class. and Mrs Glineur will teach the Penguins class.

On Friday mornings Mrs Gausden teaches Penguins.

This gives the teachers time to prepare for the following week. If, on occasion, supply teachers are needed, we try to use as few different faces as possible.

Meeting your Class Teacher

If you have any questions, please do speak to us at drop-off or pick-up time. If this is not possible, we are happy to arrange a meeting at a mutually convenient time or you can call or email the office.

Parents’ Evenings are held in October and February each year.

Curriculum

In Reception we explore three exciting topics:

Autumn Term Spring Term Summer Term
Welcome to Aldrington! Join us to make your very own treasure box and discover the colours of autumn. We’re going on a bear hunt, we’re meeting Goldilocks and we can even bring our own teddy bears! Time to get outside and find out about bugs and plants. Come to the flower shop, meet the caterpillars and climb the beanstalk!

Details of our termly curriculum can be found in the topic leaflets below. Please click to download.

Trips and Dates

PE and Uniform

Full details of our school uniform can be found here.

In the colder months, please ensure that children have a coat for time outside.

Please send your child with a spare pair of socks and underwear in case of accidents!

PE session will be held each Friday morning. This is in addition to regular time that children have in the Reception playground and on the large climbing frame. We will not be changing for PE until after Christmas. It is helpful if children can learn to change clothes independently.

Home Learning

Phonics

At Aldrington, we learn four new sounds a week using the multi-sensory Jolly Phonics scheme. Towards the end of the Autumn term, we will begin Phase 2 of the phonics scheme and your child will bring home a ‘Sounds Book’. This will list the sounds covered each week. It will be collected every Tuesday (to put in the new sounds) and taken home on Thursdays.

Please look out for details of our Phonics/Reading session for parents. Led by staff members, this will give much more information about how to read phonics with your children.

Reading

Reading is an integral part of the school day, both one-to-one with an adult and in small groups. When your child is ready, they will be given a reading book and reading record to take home. Please try to set aside a few minutes each day to share your child’s reading book. It is helpful if you complete the record book on a regular basis.

Your child will be given a school library book on a Friday. The idea to foster an enjoyment of reading and experience different texts, rather than for the child to read necessarily. Upon return of the book, it will be changed every Friday. Do consider keeping school books in the book bag to prevent loss.

Food and Drink

Please click here for the school dinner menu.

Every child should come to school with a (name labelled) water bottle. Please do not put it in the book bag as it may spill!

A fruit or vegetable snack is provided for each child every day. If, however, your child is not keen on many fruits or vegetables, you may provide your own fruit or vegetable snack (not fruit bars, such as Yo Yo bars). Please label the snack to prevent upset, and keep it out of lunch boxes which are stored separately.

Please remember that no food that includes nuts is to be brought into school.
