Welcome to Year One!
Our Year One classes are the Hedgehogs and Squirrels.
Miss Turner teaches Hedgehogs and Mrs Robins teaches Squirrels.
On Tuesday afternoons, Mrs Glineur and Mrs Jones will teach Year One.
The teachers are assisted by Mrs Jones, Ms Rummery and Ms Lieugard.
Meeting your Class Teacher
If you have any questions, please do speak to us at drop-off or pick-up time. If this is not possible, we are happy to arrange a meeting at a mutually convenient time or you can call or email the office.
Parents’ Evenings are held in October and February each year.
In Year One we explore three exciting topics:
|Autumn Term||Spring Term||Summer Term|
|Our topic is A Walk in the Woods. We have been reading stories set in the woods, going to visit the woods and learning all about how they grow.||We will take a journey through food from around the world and through the ages. We will sample food from other countries and hold our own Victorian Tea Party.||The term begins by looking at how we travel and the area around our school. Our topic expands to include transport in the past and space travel!|
Details of our termly curriculum can be found in the topic leaflets below. Please click to download.
Trips and Dates
PE and Uniform
Please remember that children must wear a tie between October half-term and Easter as part of their full school uniform. In the colder months, please ensure that children have a coat for break and lunchtimes.
In Year 1, PE is on a Wednesday and Thursday.
Children need their PE kit for both inside and outside sport. During colder months, please do include a fleece. PE kits should be kept in school all week and brought home at the end of each half-term. For details about our PE kit, please click here.
Year 1 children should continue to read at home regularly. We recommend at least fifteen minutes five times a week. This is essential to developing reading skills and all learning. Please complete the Reading Record booklet which will be seen by the class teacher each week.
Please click here for questions and ideas to make the most out of reading at home and together.
Spelling lists will be sent out each half term. For ideas on how to practise words, please click here.
Each week children are set a specific piece of homework based on class work that week. This is generally English, maths or topic related.
Homework is set each Thursday and is due the following Wednesday. Please remind children to put homework folders in the box by Wednesday.
Food and Drink
Every child should come to school with a (name labelled) water bottle. Please do not put it in the book bag as it may spill!
A fruit or vegetable snack is provided for each child every day. If, however, your child is not keen on many fruits or vegetables, you may provide your own fruit or vegetable snack (not fruit bars, such as Yo Yo bars). Please label the snack to prevent upset, and keep it out of lunch boxes which are stored separately.
Please remember that no food that includes nuts is to be brought into school.
Children may arrive at school from 8:40am and must be present by 8:50am. Key Stage 1 children finish at 3:10pm and Year 1 pupils should be collected from their classrooms (parents and carers entering via the lychgate). After 3:15pm, children should be collected from the school office.
