Welcome to Year Four!
Our Year Four classes are the Jaguars and Lynx.
The teachers are assisted by Mrs Stubbs, Miss Bridgeman and Miss Palmer.
Meeting your Class Teacher
If you have any questions, please do speak to us at drop-off or pick-up time. If this is not possible, we are happy to arrange a meeting at a mutually convenient time or you can call or email the office.
Parents’ Evenings are held in October and February each year.
In Year Four we explore three exciting topics:
|Autumn Term||Spring Term||Summer Term|
|Join us as we jet to the Mexican Fiesta and explore the rainforest. Who lives there now, and who lived there in ancient times?||Back in Britain, the Saxons face the constant threat of invasion. Children become knights and defend the newly-Christianised Saxon settlements.||The children have been hired by the secret Monster Central Intelligence Agency. We’ll be discovering the history of Brighton but as to the MCIA – it’s a secret!|
Details of our termly curriculum can be found in the topic leaflets below. Please click to download.
Trips and Dates
PE and Uniform
Please remember that children must wear a tie between October half-term and Easter as part of their full school uniform. In the colder months, please ensure that children have a coat for break and lunchtimes.
In Year 4, outdoor PE is on Wednesdays and indoor PE on Fridays.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, children should come to school dressed in their PE kit for that day. Especially in colder weather, children should come in a full tracksuit rather than shorts and T-shirt.
Year 4 children should continue to read at home regularly. We recommend at least fifteen minutes five times a week. This is essential to developing reading skills and all learning.
Please click here for questions and ideas to make the most out of reading at home and together.
Spelling lists will be sent out each half term. For ideas on how to practise words, please click here.
During Y4, all children will gain a Lexia account, please encourage them to practise for 10 minutes a day - with a target of 60 minutes a week. Click here to log in.
Children should spend time each week practising their times tables. Children have individual logins to Times Tables Rockstars and can build progress by playing regularly.
When appropriate, children are set a specific topic piece of homework based on class work.
Homework is set each Thursday and is due the following Tuesday.
Food and Drink
Every should come to school with a (name labelled) water bottle that will be kept in the classroom.
Children may bring a healthy snack for morning break each day.
Please remember that no food including nuts is to be brought into school.
Normally, children may arrive at school from 8:40am and must be present by 8:50am. Key Stage 1 children finish at 3:10pm and can be collected from the KS1 playground. After 3:15pm, children should be collected from the school office.
