Parents’ Evenings are held in October and February each year.
Curriculum
In Year Four we explore three exciting topics:
Autumn Term | Spring Term | Summer Term |
Join us as we jet to the Mexican Fiesta and explore the rainforest. Who lives there now, and who lived there in ancient times? | Back in Britain, the Saxons face the constant threat of invasion. Children become knights and defend the newly-Christianised Saxon settlements. | The children have been hired by the secret Monster Central Intelligence Agency. We’ll be discovering the history of Brighton but as to the MCIA – it’s a secret! |
Details of our termly curriculum can be found in the topic leaflets below. Please click to download.

PE and Uniform
Full details of our school uniform can be found here
Please remember that children must wear a tie between October half-term and Easter as part of their full school uniform. In the colder months, please ensure that children have a coat for break and lunchtimes.

In Year 4, PE is on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
On the children’s PE days, they come to school in their PE kit and stay in it all day. Especially in colder weather, children should come in a full tracksuit rather than shorts and t-shirt.

Home Learning
Reading
Year 4 children should continue to read at home regularly. We recommend at least fifteen minutes five times a week. This is essential to developing reading skills and all learning.
Please click here for questions and ideas to make the most out of reading at home and together.
Spelling
Spelling lists will be sent out each half term. For ideas on how to practise words, please click here.
During Y4, all children will gain a Lexia account, please encourage them to practise for 10 minutes a day - with a target of 60 minutes a week. Click here to log in.
Times Tables
Children should spend time each week practising their times tables. Children have individual logins to Times Tables Rockstars and can build progress by playing regularly.
Topic Homework
When appropriate, children are set a specific topic piece of homework based on class work.
Homework is set each Thursday and is due the following Tuesday.
Food and Drink

Every child should come to school with a (name labelled) water bottle that will be kept in the classroom.
Children may bring a healthy snack for morning break each day.
Please can we remind you that we are strictly a NO NUT school. This includes products containing nuts e.g pesto, nutella etc. We have children with severe allergies that could lead to anaphylaxis. If your child has an allergy, we need to know. Please contact the school office to provide information.
