School Uniform Policy

1. INTRODUCTION

At Aldrington CE Primary School we believe that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos. It is also important that certain activities are supported by specialised and appropriate clothing when attending school eg PE, or when participating in a school-organised event off-site or outside normal school hours eg sports events or after school clubs.

1.1 Aims

Our policy for children’s school uniform is based on the belief that a school uniform promotes a sense of pride in the school and engenders a feeling of community and belonging. Our uniform is practical and smart and identifies the children with the school. We want our uniform to support inclusion, to be readily available and represent good value for parents.

2. SCHOOL UNIFORM LIST

Children may, if they wish, wear the full uniform at any time of year. Summer uniform may be worn after Easter (in the summer term) and in the autumn term whilst the weather is still warm (usually until half term). Exact dates will be at the discretion of the Headteacher, who will notify parents if there is to be a change to this arrangement as a result of unseasonably warm/cold weather. PE uniform is the same all year round with additional layers for colder weather.

2.1 Reception Pupils

Reception children should wear a plain white collared polo shirt with the school logo instead of a shirt and tie. Polo shirts are available from the school supplier, Logo Sports, Hove (see Section 4 for details). Other items of uniform are as below.

NB Ties need not be worn in summer and shirt collars may be opened at the neck.

2.4 Shoes

Children should wear traditional black leather/leather-look shoes (not suede, tan or khaki). Shoes should be suitable for active play, climbing stairs etc. No shoes with heels or ballet pumps, please. Boots and trainers may be worn in the playground but not as inside shoes (children should have an indoor pair to change into). Children may also be asked to bring in wellington boots for outdoor activities such as Forest School or gardening.

2.5 PE Kit

It is expected that all children will change for PE, for both hygiene and health and safety reasons, and will wear the correct PE kit. PE bags (see 3.2) should be in school daily throughout the week.

 3. ACCESSORIES

3.1 Hair and Jewellery

• Shoulder length hair should be tied back with simple discreet bands; large hair accessories are easily lost and can cause a distraction at learning time. Hair accessories should be grey purple or gold (yellow) ONLY.
• Hair should be kept neat, no tram lines or shaved designs.
• For health and safety reasons, we prefer that children do not wear jewellery, (including earrings, necklaces, bangles, friendship bracelets) in school. If your child has pierced ears they can wear studs. Watches can be worn during the normal school day.
• It should be noted that no watches or jewellery are allowed to be worn during PE lessons for safety reasons. If your child has pierced ears please ensure that they only wear studs and that you provide microtape which can be used to cover and protect the ear studs during PE.
• If your child needs to wear any form of jewellery for religious purposes, we ask that you inform the Headteacher in writing.
