Our City, Our World
Aldrington is part of the Brighton & Hove initiative, Our City, Our World, which works with schools to integrate sustainability into all areas of their curriculum, develop processes to support net zero, plan for outdoor learning and nature connection and provide opportunities for young people, their families and communities to tackle climate action.
As a Christian school, we teach our pupils that we are created and loved by God, and that we have responsibilities to honour all of his creation and be good stewards of the world's resources. This was the focus for the school-wide Faith in Art Week held in July 2023.
We began this academic year with a project for Years 1-6 based on the book ‘In our hands’ by Lucy Farfort. This book calls for everyone to come together and build a better future. It helped to set a context for our beginning of year focuses as children became known as not only individuals but also as part of the group or ‘team’ in their new classes.
Artwork created by the children links the book to the ‘Our City, Our World’ programme.
The OCOW programme includes our curriculum but also extends beyond it to our site and premises and our community activities. The strands include: Biodiversity, Energy, Food, Travel, Water, Consumption and Waste.
As you can see, we have been busy!
