Aldrington is part of the Brighton & Hove initiative, Our City, Our World, which works with schools to integrate sustainability into all areas of their curriculum, develop processes to support net zero, plan for outdoor learning and nature connection and provide opportunities for young people, their families and communities to tackle climate action.
The Our City, Our World programme includes our curriculum but also extends beyond it to our site and premises and our community activities. The strands include: Biodiversity, Energy, Food, Travel, Water, Consumption and Waste.
In April 2024 we launched Our City, Our World at Aldrington with an all-day event in school with everyone taking part in a rotation of fun-filled, informative activities The children had the opportunity to think about their role in protecting the environment, both locally and globally, in a way that empowers and motivates action for change. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children spent time learning about food, travel and biodiversity while Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 children focused on consumption and waste, water, energy and the role of an Eco Committee within school. At the end of the event, boards were put up outside the front of school showcasing what the children had been up to and learned throughout the day. Click here to have a look.
We received the Our City, Our World Silver Award in December 2025 recognising that we've moved beyond basic Bronze actions to a deeper, system-wide approach for a greener future by demonstrating real action on energy, waste and biodiversity, having an Eco-Committee and embedding clear links in lessons.
As you can see, we have been busy!
