Aldrington CE Primary School

Supporting Compassion in Indonesia

As the Summer approaches, we are thinking about our promise to Compassion UK, our international charity. A couple of years ago we promised to help them rebuild their small primary school in Blitar, Indonesia. The total cost was nearly £10000 but the local people raised £4600 and we promised to make up the difference (£5290). By Spring 2020, they had completed the building works, when we shared photos in a school assembly of the many improvements made: children now able to learn indoors in eight airy classrooms with windows, furniture and resources, away from the busy streets.

In Summer 2019, Aldrington children held a variety of fund raising events and raised an amazing total of £1260, through a variety of cake sales and Fayres, Y6 and their Young Enterprise scheme and the amazing generosity of one young man who gave us his birthday money. Due to the lockdown last Spring, we paused in our fundraising but would now like to work together with you and the children to raise the remaining £4030 promised.

In today’s assembly the children were shown photos of Anugerah School, in Blitar, and we started to think about how we can raise the money to make good our promise. The Reception, Years 1 and 2 children are going to kick us off with a sponsored event this half term. Years 3 and 4 children will fund raise in the first half of the Summer Term and Years 5 and 6 after the Summer half term break. Together we’ll see how much we can raise towards the £4030 this academic year.

We want the children to have fun in this venture as well as to raise what they can. We hope you have fun with them!
