Aldrington CE Primary School

Remembrance Day

Today the school marked Remembrance Day with a socially-distanced assembly and minute's silence outside in the playground.

This was a very special occasion as we gathered around our large playground.  The children in Year 1 had made their own poppies, whilst those in Year 4 showed us their illustrations for John McCrae's poem, "In Flanders Field".

During our assembly, we thought about why we pause to remember on 11 November and our Year 6 children shared poems and prayers with us.  Lydia from Year 6 played 'The Last Post' on her cornet to mark the beginning of our silent reflection and 'The Reveille' to mark its end. We placed our own poppy wreath in the centre of our square and listened to a song the children have been learning in class, 'We will remember'.

Thank you to all those who have supported this year's Poppy Appeal.
