'Macbeth' photos & video

From the pupils

In Year Five we have learned and performed a musical version of Macbeth. Using Shakespeare's language, it included lines such as “Is this a dagger which I see before me?" and “Out damn spot!". Our play included  recreating the famous Shakespeare story in our own English lessons. Whilst doing this we had to work with people we hadn’t before.

During this performance we had several musical numbers (including singing solos), many acting pieces and some dancing. We really enjoyed the banquet scene and the first song, and the final fight scene was very dramatic.

From the teachers

We are so impressed with how Year 5 rose to the challenge to perform 'Macbeth'. Despite being written more than 400 years ago, children brought the original language to life, and delivered some especially long and powerful soliloquies.

Over the past six weeks, we have encountered the play using Rehearsal Room techniques from the Royal Shakespeare Company. Learning how to embody the text and find its meaning has opened up the rich language and emotion of the story.

Thank-you to the many parents who helped support this production, and to colleagues at the RSC for their inspiration and insight.

But most of all, well done to our fabulous pupils of whom we are so proud!
