2023 Year 6 visit to Take Shelter
This week, Year 6 had an amazing trip to the Take Shelter air raid shelter under the playground at Down's Junior School. We experienced going down into the shelter and sitting on the tiny benches, imagining the children doing the same during the Second World War. We learned so much about the war, including rationing, gas masks and the bombing of Brighton.
A great highlight was hearing the memories of Barry, David, Ann and Sue who told us about what they remember. David told us about how he was evacuated to Brighton and Ann told us about having a bath in just a tiny amount of hot water!

It was amazing to see the shelters and I love that we had a trip in just the second week!
