Food
Helping our children understand where food comes from is an important part of helping them develop responsible eating habits. Growing projects, as well as recycling fruit and vegetable waste back into the soil as compost, help support this as do our food technology projects in DT.
Our school meals providers Caterlink also promote sustainable and responsible eating habits by providing one meat-free day every week and meat-free options every day. Other initiatives help the children understand the value of a healthy balanced diet such as Eat them to Defeat them encouraging children to eat a wider range of vegetables.
Aldrington Allotment
Reception to Year 2 children enjoy getting their hands dirty at the Aldrington allotment, which is opposite the school. Our kind allotment volunteers show the children how to dig, plant, water and grow vegetables.
During the summer break, the Aldrington Allotment produced an excess amount of courgettes and potatoes, which were donated to local Hove and Hangleton food banks. So, the children's hard work of sowing the courgette seeds and seed potatoes not only benefited the children's learning but also the local community.
