Biodiversity
Biodiversity refers to all the living things around us working together to maintain life on our planet. We need biodiversity for life on earth to survive so we must look after it.
When in Year 4 children are visited by Reptylers, giving them the opportunity to meet a number of exotic creatures and learn about their habits and the importance of caring for these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat as well as in this country.
We are very fortunate in school to have a range of habitats for living things including The Spinney with its low bushes, log piles and young trees and even a bespoke 'bug hotel' for creatures to use. We have more established trees near our treehouse and are developing meadow areas with wildflowers to encourage birds and insects. Our gardens and allotment also provide habitat for local creatures.
Each year we take part in No Mow May, encouraging the school community to let their grassy areas grow a bit longer to provide food and habitat for pollinators and other wildlife.
